Jackie Chan as Quan in The Foreigner, a thriller to be released in October featuring Pierce Brosnan

Ahead of the October 13 theatrical release of The Foreigner, STXfilms has released a trailer that is arresting. Starring Jackie Chan (Quan) and Pierce Brosnan, the thriller is being directed by Casino Royal Royale’s Martin Campbell.
Jackie Chan’s role in this new movie follows a different path from his traditional clowning characters played over the years. From jumping from a window or hanging from bamboo scaffolding as in the Rush Hour franchise, Chan is always making people laugh. His role in The Foreigner is, however, not a laughing matter.
As the protagonist, Jackie Chan’s character Quan is tough and exudes a danger. After years of living in London and making a name for himself as the successful businessman, Quan’s long-buried past suddenly erupts after his teenage daughter is killed in a senseless act of politically motivated terrorism.
Quan goes into a tailspin as he searches for the terrorists responsible for his daughter’s death. In his search, he comes across British government official (Brosnan), whose past holds a link to the identities of those responsible for killing his daughter.
The Foreigner is based on Stephen Leather’s novel The Chinaman. The movie has been in the works since 2015 when STX got Chan’s commitment. Jackie Chan, Wayne Marc Godfrey, Arthur Sarkissian, Qi Jian Hong, Claire Kupchak, Scott Lumpkin, Jamie Marshall and Cathy Schulman are producers.
